Free Walking Tour of Pelourinho
Overview
On this Free Walking Tour, we’ll explore some of the most important sites for understanding the history, culture, and development of Brazil’s first capital.
Our tour begins at Praça Castro Alves and continues along historic Rua Chile, passing through Praça Municipal, Praça da Sé, and Terreiro de Jesus, until we reach the heart of Pelourinho and its streets brimming with history, architecture, and culture.
Along the way, we’ll discuss different periods in the history of Salvador and Bahia, learning about the contributions of Indigenous, African, and European peoples to the formation of our society and cultural identity.
We’ll also have the opportunity to explore the Lacerda Elevator area, enjoy the view of Todos-os-Santos Bay, and take in the famous Mercado Modelo—all important symbols of the connection between the Upper City and the Lower City.
More than just a tour of monuments, this experience is an invitation to understand Salvador through its stories, people, cultures, and interesting facts.
A cultural and historical walking tour for those who want to experience Salvador in a different way.

Things to note
Points to note:
This is a Free Walking Tour, which means there is no mandatory fixed price to participate. At the end of the tour, each participant is free to voluntarily contribute whatever amount they consider fair, based on their satisfaction and ability to pay. The contribution is a way to show appreciation for the guide’s work and help ensure the tour’s continuation.
This makes it clear that the tour is free to book and join, but that the guide relies on contributions for their livelihood.
