On arrival

On arrival, I’ll be waiting in front of the Barra Lighthouse to welcome you and kick off our tour at the Bahia Maritime Museum.

We’ll go inside the museum, explore the six exhibition rooms and learn all about the history of navigation and Salvador’s fortifications. We’ll also climb up to the lighthouse to visit the viewing platform, as well as making the most of the museum’s facilities, such as the café.

During the visit, I’ll be with you, explaining each area and helping you capture the best shots and photos inside the museum.

In my view, it’s well worth visiting the Barra Lighthouse with a tour guide, as we can really make the most of the history, the details and the experience of the place.

The Barra Lighthouse and the Nautical Museum are one of my specialities as a guide and cultural mediator.

Things to note

Points to note:

• To enter the museum, you will need to climb approximately 20 steps.
• To reach the lighthouse viewing platform, there are approximately 80 further steps.
• People with physical disabilities can make use of the accessibility equipment available at the museum to assist with climbing the stairs.
• To get the most out of your photos, we recommend wearing attractive, colourful clothes that complement the scenery and the pictures.
• At the Nautical Museum, we’ll have opportunities to take photos by the windows, next to the instruments and in different areas of the exhibition.
• The viewing platform is one of the most special spots for taking photos, offering an incredible view of Salvador and the Bay of Todos-os-Santos.
• Outside the lighthouse, we’ll also take creative photos, such as the classic ‘holding up the lighthouse’ pose with your fingers, as well as trying out different poses and effects to make the photos even more beautiful.
