Overview

Sagunto is a city of Edetan origin (ARSE from the V century BC) of alternation and coexistence of Iberians, Romans, Visigoths and Arabs, living with Jews and Christians. During Roman times it took the name of Saguntum and during the Arab occupation it was known as Morvedre or Murviedro. Since the 19th century the name Sagunto (Sagunt in Valencian) has been used until the present day.

Place of beginning in 218 BC of the Second Punic War between the Carthaginians under the command of Hannibal and the Iberian population allied with Rome. Its beautiful theater and its spectacular and important castle do not leave indifferent any visitor with magnificent views in the tower of Hercules.

Scenario of military sites, battles and conflicts, even before the year 0, in the Reconquest, Napoleonic Invasion and Spanish Civil War, is a comfortable city where in just 2 hours walk you can learn about its history and legends in complete safety after this. Come back to this beautiful and well communicated city at any time of the year, since its beaches and typical dishes are catalogued as the best in Europe.

Meeting point

32 Avinguda Sants de la Pedra

On arrival

The meeting point will be sent to cell phones (cell phone number) by GPS. I will be there with an open orange umbrella near the south bank of the Palancia river (at the ruins of the Roman Bridge) to arrange our meeting.

Things to note

It is a beautiful ride from the river to 100 meters above sea level (at Sagunto Castle), where you will enjoy incredible views of the Mediterranean Sea (48 km above sea level if the weather permits).
Bring water and a hat in summer. Comfortable shoes and sun protection will be convenient.
It is a very complete tour of the city to walk through 25 centuries of history, architecture, and the beautiful ethnographic heritage of my city.
WELCOME.
