Overview of the tour in Prague

On this tour, you will be taken to the still functioning Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital on the outskirts of the centre of Prague. We will provide you with a unique and detailed insight into the establishment’s history and of the methods used on patients suffering from mental disorders which may be seen today as both shocking and incomprehensible. From mystic rituals in Medieval times to more recent treatments such as lobotomies, we will take you on a historical ride into the field of psychiatry. This will also include a reflexion on treatments influenced by the financial interests of the pharmaceutical industry which at times only further enhanced the harm done to patients and their loved ones. This breathtaking walk through the institution’s grounds will allow every enthusiast to be closer to the tragic past of many of Bohemia’s stigmatized patients.

This eerie promenade will also lead you towards the Asylum’s famous abandoned graveyard where patients, criminals and many other lost souls were once laid to rest. However, tread carefully on the way, the forgotten souls who have never found peace may still roam around the clinic’s seemingly tranquil grounds.

Meeting point: Ústavní 91, 181 00 Praha 8-Bohnice, Czechia
Meet in front of the gate to the Psychiatric Hospital in Bohnice, Ústavní 91, 181 00 Praha 8. By public transport: Take metro line C to the station Kobylisy. From there, take the exit from the metro in direction ,,Katastrální úřad’’. At the exit, go to the bus station and take the bus number 177 (direction ,,Poliklinika Mazurská”) or number 200 (direction ,,Sídliště Bohnice’’). Get off at the bus station ,,Katovická’’. After getting off, turn around and go in the opposite direction to the bus that you arrived with until you come to the first crossroad. Turn left and you will find yourself at the Ústavní street, walk until you reach the metal gate with number 91. By taxi: Give your taxi driver the address Psychiatric Hospital in Bohnice, Ústavní 91. The price by Bolt or Uber from city center is approximately 330 CZK (14 EUR).
