Overview

Walk the very hill where Porto was born over 2,500 years ago.

On this immersive 2-hour walking tour, you’ll uncover the ancient origins of the city and explore 10 key locations where history still whispers through the stones. Long before Porto became the vibrant destination we know today, this was a small settlement that would grow into Roman Portus Cale and eventually shape the identity of Portugal itself.

This is not just a history tour — it’s a journey through time. Expect captivating stories, hidden details most visitors miss, and powerful legends that bring the past to life. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of how Porto evolved and why its origins still matter today.

Perfect for curious travelers who want more than surface-level sightseeing.

Free to book. Tip-based. Limited group size for a more personal experience.

Reserve your spot and discover where Porto’s story truly began.

Estátua de Vímara Peres - Porto

On arrival

We meet next to the Statue of Vímara Peres, located near Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto) in the historic center.

The statue is just a few steps from the cathedral and is easy to find.

How to get there:

• By Metro: Take Line D (Yellow Line) to “São Bento” station. From there, it’s about a 5-minute uphill walk.
• By Train: São Bento train station is also around 5 minutes on foot.
• By Uber/Bolt: Ask to be dropped off at “Sé do Porto” or “Statue of Vímara Peres.”

Your guide will be waiting next to the statue, holding a blue umbrella or a blue sign for easy identification.

Please arrive 10 minutes before the starting time.

How can the tour be free?

Our concept is simple — there is no set price. Instead, you tip your guide at the end of the tour whatever amount feels right to you. Typically, guests give between $10 to €50, depending on their satisfaction and budget.

Most guides accept cash or card payments, or you can do it via our app.

Free Cancellation

You are free to cancel a booking anytime. We kindly remind you to cancel bookings you cannot arrive for. Being reported as absent decreases your customer level points and the benefits you can enjoy.
