Bohemian Paris: Culture, Literature, and Secrets of the Latin Quarter
Overview
On this tour, I’ll take you through its streets through the eyes of someone who truly knows them. I’m Gabriel, a Colombian, a Ph.D. candidate in literature, and a resident of the city for the past five years. I won’t tell you what you’ll find in any guidebook—I’ll show you what lies hidden behind the facades.
Two hours, twelve stops, a neighborhood that has been accumulating secrets for twenty centuries. Legendary bookstores, iconic movie theaters, universities with eight centuries of history, hidden churches, statues with magical powers, and a Roman corner that almost no one knows about.
The itinerary:
Place Saint-Michel - Shakespeare and Company - Rue de la Huchette - Cluny Museum - Cinéma Le Champo - The Sorbonne and the Collège de France - Place de la Sorbonne - Panthéon - Église Saint-Étienne-du-Mont - Lycée Henri IV - Place de la Contrescarpe - Arènes de Lutèce.
All in Spanish. All with passion. All with stories that only someone who lives here can tell you.
On arrival
We’ll meet at Place Saint-Michel, in front of the large fountain of the Archangel Michael. It’s impossible to miss—it’s the largest fountain in the square, right at the intersection of Boulevard Saint-Michel and the Seine. Metro: Saint-Michel (Line 4) or Cité (Line 4). I’ll be holding a sign with the tour’s name: Bohemian Paris: Latin Quarter.
Things to note
The tour is conducted entirely in Spanish. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes, as we’ll be walking. In August, the heat can be intense—we recommend bringing water and sunscreen. There is no age limit. The tour takes place regardless of weather conditions, except in the event of very heavy rain.
