Overview
Our Golden Hour of Nice tour will start at Place Massena, the heart of the city, where we will learn about Henri Massena, the convergence of the old and new town, and the controversy of the Fountain du Soleil. We will then move to the Promenade and visit the miniature Statue of Liberty, learn about the history of the Promenade des Anglais, the story of Castle Hill, and more. Next, we explore the Cours Saleya, Nice’s food and flower market, and explore the history of the majestic Palais of the Prefecture. We will then explore the Ancient Senate building and medieval prison, as well as the first paved street in Nice, rue du Malonat.
Making our way past the medieval Jewish Ghetto to Rue Droite, we will pass by the incredible Genovese Baroque Palais Lascaris. Next, we will view an original cannonball from the 1543 Turkish/Franco siege of Nice and learn about Catherine Segurane. We will then continue through the old town to the impressive Place Garibaldi, where we will discover the significance of this location during the time when Nice was a walled fortress city. We will also discuss the role Garibaldi played as a military leader in Nice after it became part of France in 1860.
