Overview
Route 1 - The birth of a city (Foundational):
We walk the Montevideo of the 18th century. From the Puerta de la Ciudadela, the last vestige of the walls, to the statue of Zabala, the founder of Montevideo, the man with the silver arm. The Plaza Matriz, the Ferrari fountain (with its child drinking water, the most human symbol of the city), the Cabildo, the Cathedral and its hidden relics of the Apostles, the Plaza Zabala (the first fort of Montevideo). The stories of pirates, the caudillos buried in the Cathedral, the stories of water carriers, epidemics and the first register of the city written in red badana, walk along Sarandi Street to the Mercado del Puerto. A leisurely walk to understand where Montevideo comes from.
