Free Tour of Comuna 13: History, Hidden Gems, Graffiti
Overview
My name is Sara, and I invite you to join a local guide to discover both the most authentic part of the neighborhood—with its stairways, alleys, and everyday life—and the more touristy area, filled with colorful murals that tell the story of our community’s identity.
Our guides won’t just show you the neighborhood—they’ll share their own stories and those of their families, shaped by difficult years of violence and armed conflict. You’ll see how we’ve become a symbol of resilience, culture, and hope, thanks to social transformation through urban art, development projects, and community unity.
During the tour, you’ll also discover:
Street dance and improv shows (optional)
The chance to create your own graffiti
A walk along the escalators and to the observation deck with panoramic views of Medellín
Urban art and neon galleries, as well as souvenir shops
Traditional Comuna 13 ice creams (mango biche, maracuyamango) and local cuisine
At the end of the tour, you can continue exploring the area on your own, if you wish
IMPORTANT: This tour does NOT include visits to the Cristo statue, Pachamama, the Gorilla, etc., as these are observation decks with high admission fees and long lines.
