Overview
Morning: History under the Frost
- Royal Residence: Start at the Grand Ducal Palace, whose illuminated facade in December offers a fairytale welcome.
- Spirituality and Gothic: We will visit the Notre-Dame Cathedral, where candlelight and Gothic architecture invite to a moment of peace.
- Dreamlike views: We will walk along the Chemin de la Corniche, the "most beautiful balcony in Europe", to contemplate the Grund district, which in winter looks like a real manger under the fog.
Afternoon: Christmas Flavors and Markets
- The Festive Heart: We will dive into the Place d'Armes, the soul of the Lëtzebuerger Chrëschtmaart.
- Typical Gastronomy: It's time to taste the famous Gromperekichelcher (potato pancakes) and warm up with a Glühwäin (mulled wine) under the big Christmas tree.

How to get there:
By Tram (Recommended):
Take streetcar line T1 (which is free throughout the country).
Get off at the "Hamilius" stop. When you get off the streetcar, you will find yourself in front of the modern Royal-Hamilius building.
By bus:
Almost all major lines that cross the city center stop at Hamilius. When you get off, head towards Boulevard Royal.
Things to note
Weather and Clothing
Thermal layers: Temperatures in December range from -1°C to 5°C. We recommend dressing "onion style" (layers), with a good scarf, gloves and hat.
Footwear: We will be walking on cobblestone streets that may be wet or slippery. Please wear comfortable, waterproof shoes with good grip.
Free Transportation
Remember that throughout the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg public transportation is 100% free (trains, streetcars and buses). You don't need to buy tickets or validate anything when boarding, so take advantage of this to get to our meeting point!
Payments and Cash
Although most stalls at the Christmas markets accept credit and debit cards, some smaller food or craft stalls prefer cash. ATMs are available near the Hamilius station.
Toilet Facilities
There are free and very clean public restrooms at the Place d'Armes and near the Hamilius building. During the tour, we will take a technical break if necessary.
Photos
Don't forget to charge your cell phone or camera! The tour includes the most Instagrammable spots in the city. Sunset occurs early (around 4:30 pm), which will allow us to see the lights turn on in full swing.
