Everyone knows Big Ben. What most people miss is everything in between the famous buildings.
I’ve lived in London for ten years, and for the past five I’ve been sharing the stories of this city. I’ve gotten to know the city on foot, by asking the people who live here. This isn’t just a list of dates on the facades of buildings.
We set out from the steps of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, two minutes from Charing Cross, and walked to Buckingham Palace in two hours.
Along the way: Trafalgar Square, Downing Street, Parliament, Westminster Abbey, St. James’s Palace. And also:
• Britain’s smallest police station, hidden in plain sight
• Where England got rid of the king and became a republic
• Where the country’s most famous dish came from
• A true and unbelievable story involving a zebra
• The pub with a bell that calls MPs back to work
• The real reason we drive on the left
• The man who broke into Buckingham Palace and ended up in the Queen’s bed

Look for the guide holding a red umbrella in front of the steps of Trafalgar Square.
Things to note
Your guide will be at the meeting point 15 minutes before the tour starts. Arrive on time, as the tour starts punctually.
There are pay toilets in Trafalgar Square. If you need a free option, Charing Cross station is the nearest.
Fancy a coffee before the tour? We recommend Joe Blake's or Kiss the Hippo in Covent Garden, depending on which direction you're coming from.
The tour lasts between 2 and 2h30, depending on the guide.
