Overview

Freetour.com and our guide doesn't charge you a pre-pay s/ 120.00 when you arrive at the tour as in other platforms. Join our Barrios Altos History and Culture Walking Tour and dive deep into the rich past of Lima's most gastronomic neighborhood. As you explore the cobblestone streets, you'll encounter the stories and landmarks that shaped this iconic area, while also enjoying a few select tastes of traditional Peruvian flavors.

We’ll begin at one of Barrios Altos oldest bars. Here, you’ll sip on a local aperitif while soaking in the authentic atmosphere. From there, we’ll venture to the renowned Central Market, where we’ll wander through its vibrant antique and food stalls. You’ll discover the market’s cultural significance and sample local favorites like ceviches, anticuchos, and pashion fruit chocolate.

As we walk, you’ll learn about the neighborhood’s transformation over time—from its colonial roots to its popular charm today. Along the way, we’ll stop at iconic landmarks and hidden gems, each with its own unique story. We’ll visit a classic "almacén," a neighborhood grocery store turned restaurant, where locals have gathered for generations to enjoy authentic meals.

On arrival

Arrive Early: Aim to arrive 10–5 minutes before the tour starts to secure your spot and meet the guide.
Dress in Layers: Lima's weather can be unpredictable, so bring a jacket or jumper, even on sunny days.
Comfortable Shoes: The city is flat, and you'll likely be walking a lot. Wear sturdy, comfortable footwear.
Stay Hydrated: The high altitude can be dehydrating. Bring a water bottle to stay refreshed.
Bring cash: You could taste all the different foodies from Lima city. But We do not force you into a pre-payment.
By the end of the journey, you'll never again call pisco "Chilean". I, as your host-guide, will provide you with some free tastings.
