Downtown La Paz
Overview of the tour in La Paz, Bolivia
This walk is something I used to do with relatives and friends visiting La Paz for the first time. If it's early, we start with a local breakfast at a local market that is unique in La Paz. Then, we walk through some of the main avenues downtown to reach the old part where important government buildings are located.
We review a bit of the history of each and some more recent historical marks left on some of them. Then we reach the museum street, the only old street remaining in La Paz.
After that, we cross to the most popular place downtown, where the San Francisco church is located. We "climb" to the witches market, and the tour can end at a good local coffee place, where specialty coffee is served.
This activity includes:
- Basilica of Saint Francis
- "July, 16th" Movie Theater
- Americano or a snack

On arrival
Teatro 16 de Julio is near Plaza del Estudiante. It has some food places on both sides of the main entrance. We will meet there.
Things to note
I worked as a tour guide many years ago. I'm not a typical guide in the sense that I want to show you as much as this weird city has and that it may escape your sight. I try to share more than just tourist facts. Meals are optional, but I do encourage you to try the coffee in some of the places, as it's my strong point to show visitors what Bolivian specialty coffee is all about.
