This coastal walk between Izola and Strunjan offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and peaceful Mediterranean atmosphere. The route follows a picturesque stretch of Slovenia’s shoreline, revealing panoramic views of rugged cliffs, the shimmering Adriatic, and the iconic curve of Moon Bay, one of the most breathtaking natural landmarks on the coast.
As the path winds gently up and down through varied terrain, walkers pass through olive groves, quiet forested sections, and several scenic viewpoints ideal for photography and short breaks. Along the way stands the charming Church of St. Mary, a small spiritual landmark overlooking the sea.
The journey continues toward the Strunjan Salt Pans, one of the last traditional salt‑making sites in the region. Here, visitors discover the centuries‑old craft of solinarstvo, learn how salt shaped local life, and observe the unique ecosystem created by the shallow basins. The salt pans are also a haven for numerous bird species, making the area especially appealing to nature lovers.
The walk covers 4 kilometres and requires comfortable walking shoes.
