Ghent Free Tour: Legends, Flavours & Hidden Stories
Overview
We begin at the elegant Hotel d'Hane-Steenhuyse, where you will learn about the Treaty of Ghent — a moment that shaped international history as Canada's borders were shaped right here in Ghent!
Next is St. Michael’s Bridge, a perfect panoramic viewpoint overlooking Ghent’s famous three towers.
At the Groentenmarkt, uncover the playful “War of the Noses” and the story of Tierenteyn mustard, before learning how Neuhaus helped invent the world-famous Belgian praline.
We continue to the imposing Gravensteen and Veerleplein, where medieval power meets contemporary art with the striking installation Ai Nati Oggi (“For Those Born Today”).
On the historic Vrijdagmarkt, once the political heart of the city, you’ll discover stories of rebellion, trade, and public life.
Then explore the colorful origins of Ghent’s vibrant Graffitistraatje, where modern creativity transforms ancient walls.

Our meeting point is in front of the Law Courts on Koophandelsplein, opposite the 'je m'en fish' restaurant. I'll be wearing a blue Chicago Cubs cap to be easily recognisable.
Things to note
I won't overload you too much with historical details. Sure, there will be some interesting historical tales, but I will also inform you on some of our local delicacies and their origin. We'll also take in some modern art along the way. The plan is to give you an idea about interesting things to do on your visit to our beautiful city.
Good walking shoes and rainwear are recommended.
