Overview
This walking tour starts in Santa Catarina Park, where we have a beautiful view of the harbor. From here, I will introduce you to the history of Madeira and explain how the island was discovered and became important for Atlantic trade.
From the park, we walk into the city center, where I will show you statues of important historical figures from Madeira. We continue along Avenida Arriaga, passing the Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias, while talking about the cultural development of Funchal and how the city grew over time.
After that, we visit the Cathedral of Funchal, one of the most important buildings on the island.
From the cathedral, we walk to the Farmers’ Market, where you can experience local life and hear about traditional products and daily life in Madeira.
We finish the tour in the Old Town, where you can really feel the original character of Funchal.

We will start in Santa Catarina Park, by the chapel. I will have my red and white Danish flag with me, so you will easily find me.
Things to note
The tour will take around 2,5 hours, and will end in the old town. Even though it is a free guided tour, all contributions at the end are welcome. As an extra piece of information regarding contributions, I do not have PayPal; only cash is possible.
