Overview
Come and discover a Cartagena that goes far beyond the sun, the beach and the walls. This tour invites you to get to know a city marked by resistance, memory and the Palenquero legacy, with a special emphasis on the fundamental role of enslaved African women in the construction of freedom, identity and culture.
Throughout the tour we will explore squares, monuments and historical corners where the Maroon spirit is still alive. We will talk about the empowerment, leadership and influence of Palenquero women, silent protagonists of the deeds of freedom. Their braids were maps of escape, their songs resistance and their sweet cultural traditions that crossed oceans and generations.
The tour includes emblematic places such as the Clock Tower, San Pedro Claver, the neighborhood of Getsemaní and the Plaza de la Trinidad, where today art, music and daily life pay homage to this living history.
We will also learn about the gastronomy inherited by black women, with traditional fried foods such as arepa de huevo and carimañola, typical fruits such as pineapple, papaya and caimito, and emblematic soft drinks such as Kola Román and Costeñita.
