Overview
The route:
- Church Square & the Groote Kerk (the auction ground, memorial stones, and the church whose congregation left enslaved attendants waiting outside)
- The Slave Church on Long Street, the Sendinggestig, built for those the other churches wouldn't seat
- The Town Hall & the Castle of Good Hope, the oldest colonial building in the country.
Told through storytelling and character rather than a list of dates.

On arrival
Meet your guide outside the main entrance of the Iziko Slave Lodge, on the corner of Adderley and Wale Street, directly across from the top end of St George's Mall. Look for Mojo 021 Explora signage. The site is a 5-minute walk up Adderley Street from Cape Town train station and sits on the main MyCiTi bus route along Adderley. Metered street parking is available nearby, or use the Golden Acre parking garage on Adderley Street.
Things to note
Comfortable walking shoes recommended — the route covers under 2 hours on foot, mostly on paved city streets, with some steps at the Slave Lodge and Castle. Let us know in advance if step-free access is needed.
Tour runs rain or shine; bring water and sun protection.
Duration is flexible from 3–6 hours depending on whether you add interior museum visits.
This walk engages honestly with the history of slavery at the Cape — it's told through storytelling rather than a list of dates, but the subject matter is heavy by nature. Bookings are confirmed with an 80% deposit, with the balance settled after the tour.
