Overview
Meeting Point: Independence Monument
We begin at the iconic Independence Monument (the park side)
Stop 1: A Taste of Home
Our first stop brings you into cozy local coffee shops where Burundians gather daily. Bonus: Tasting is free, not because it’s on us, but because that’s Burundian hospitality.
Stop 2: Musée Vivant From there, we head to Musée Vivant, a living museum where Burundi’s heritage isn’t displayed behind glass; it surrounds you. You may meet local artisans, hear traditional music, or witness storytelling that brings the culture to life in a powerful and personal way.
Stop 3: The Shores of Lake Tanganyika
You’ll walk up to the shimmering shoreline of Lake Tanganyika, one of the oldest and deepest lakes in the world. If you’re feeling adventurous or just hungry, we can stop at one of the local lakeside restaurants so that you can taste the famous Mukeke or even hop into a traditional pirogue and enjoy a peaceful boat ride at an extra cost.
Final Stop: Stop at the colorful African Market, known locally as Kumashurwe (Flowers). Here, you’ll find handcrafted souvenirs to take home.
