Overview
Meeting Point: Independence Monument
We begin at the iconic Independence Monument ( the park side)
Stop 1: A Taste of Home.
Our first stop brings you into cozy local coffee shops where Burundians gather daily. Bonus: Tasting is free, not because it’s on us, but because that’s Burundian hospitality.
Stop 2: Inside a Burundian Home, Cooking, Tasting, and Tradition.
This is the heart of the tour, you will be welcomed into a real Burundian home, where you will learn how they prepare their breakfast and snacks, you will see how they make Sambusa, Mandazi( donuts), and chapati, you won't just watch, you will join and best of all you'll taste it with milk tea like a local.
Stop 3: The Shores of Lake Tanganyika.
We will walk toward Lake Tanganyika, where the horizon stretches endlessly. If you're feeling adventurous or just hungry, we can stop at one of the local lakeside restaurants, where you can try a mukeke (fish) or even hop into a traditional pirogue.
Final Stop: African Market (Athenée)
Hop on a bus and head to the vibrant African Market, locally known as Kumashurwe. Here, you’ll find handcrafted souvenirs to take home.
