Free Theater Tour of Buenos Aires

We begin our tour at the Maipo Theater, where we explore how Argentina’s capital came to be the city with the most theaters in the world. Next, we head down Corrientes Avenue, taking in its array of entertainment architecture, and stop at the Tabaris Theater, an icon of the commercial district. We continue on to the Ópera and Gran Rex theaters, which stand opposite each other—both literally and metaphorically—and have been rivals since their inception.

Walking past marquees and signage designed for nighttime visibility and to captivate audiences eager for the arts, we approach the Teatro Colón, where we examine its opera house design—comprising the stage, boxes, and horseshoe-shaped auditorium— as well as the myths surrounding this century-old building.

Next, we continue to the Teatro Nacional Cervantes, whose ornamentation and references to the Plateresque Baroque style make it unmistakable. Following Santa Fe Avenue, past buildings with a bourgeois flair, we arrive at the Casa del Teatro and the Bond Street Gallery

We ended the tour at the Ateneo Grand Splendid bookstore, where we went inside and talked about this former theater that has been converted into one of the most beautiful bookstores on the planet.
