Overview
We will travel back in time to an era of contrasts. We will use the gang phenomenon, including the Peaky Blinders, as a common thread to unveil a city forged in industrial fire, Victorian opulence and social struggle.
Our route begins at the iconic Peaky Blinders Mural, before we delve into history. We will discover the elegant Piccadilly Arcade and the Burnaby Obelisk, witnesses to the adventurous spirit of the era. We will see how imposing buildings, such as the Old Eye Hospital and the Birmingham School of Art (future film location), represent the ambition of the era.
We will analyze the ubiquitous red brick that built the city. Finally, next to the Hall of Memory, we will connect the trauma of World War I with the lucrative underworld routes along the Worcester Canal, key to alcohol smuggling and illegal gambling.
Discover the real Birmingham: a complex metropolis where criminal history and industrial grandeur intertwine. Distinguish myth from reality.
