Guided Tour of Alcalá de Henares & the University
Overview
The highlights of the full tour of the University are found within the campus grounds. There, two architectural gems have been preserved almost intact since the building’s inception: the Paraninfo and the Chapel of San Ildefonso.
After approximately 1 hour of the guided tour of the university, we’ll head outside, where the official CompluTour guide will be waiting for us to explore the historic district.
For another 1 hour and 30 minutes, we’ll tour the must-see sites in the historic district of Alcalá de Henares. The longest covered street in Europe, Calle Mayor, is one of them. Even today, it serves as the main thoroughfare, dividing the historic city center along a central axis that stretches from Plaza de Cervantes to Plaza de los Santos Niños.
Throughout the tour, we’ll enjoy detailed historical explanations and dozens of anecdotes, covering both the past and the present. That’s because all of our guides, in addition to holding a bachelor’s degree in history, are residents of Alcalá de Henares’ historic center.

On arrival
MEETING POINTS:
Part 1 of the tour (University, approximately 1 hour): The Rector’s Office gift shop counter (Plaza de San Diego, no number), located on the right-hand side after passing through the main entrance of the building.
Part 2 of the tour (historic center, 1 hour and 30 minutes): Outside the University, next to its main entrance (Plaza de San Diego, s/n). You’ll recognize our guide by his white umbrella with the CompluTour logos.
End: The guided tour ends next to the Cathedral (Plaza de los Santos Niños).
Things to note
IMPORTANT: The first part of the tour will take place inside the university. To participate, tickets must be picked up at the Rector’s Office gift shop counter 15 minutes in advance. After touring the university, the tour of the historic district will begin with another guide, starting at the university’s main entrance.
The tour is conducted in Spanish. Minimum group size to start the tour: 4 adults. The tour is entirely on foot and is fully accessible. No additional tickets are required. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations from travel agencies or wholesalers are not accepted. Pets are not allowed on the university grounds, with the exception of guide dogs.
Cancellation policy
Free Cancellation up to 24 hours before the activity starts. Late cancellation or your non-arrival is not refundable.
