Day Trip from Reykjavik: Golden Circle

Overview of the tour in Reykjavik

Once we have done the pickup between 09:30 - 10:00, we head out of the capital area of Reykjavik towards Thingvellir, our first stop of the day. Thingvellir is a World Unesco Heritage Site, a National Park, the site of the ancient Parliament and a tectonic rift valley. Quite a package! We spend about an hour in the area, walking into the rift valley and trough the ancient parliament site.

The next stop will be at Gullfoss. Here we have lunch and enjoy the beautiful waterfalls. We will be there about one and a half hours before heading to the geothermal area of Haukadalur where Geysir is located. At Geysir, we get to see a multitude of hot springs. They are called Geysir, Konungshver, Blesi, Litli Geysir, Smiður and the star of them all the spouting hot spring called Strokkur. Strokkur erupts just about every five minutes and can go ca. thirty meters up in the air.

On our way back towards Reykjavík we pay a visit to an amazing crater lake called Kerið. This volcano was active about 6500 years ago and over time it collapsed into what we can see as a beautiful volcanic crater with a lake inside today. From Kerid we are about one hours drive from Reykjavík. We will so some extra stop
