Free Tour of Ribeira and Douro River of Oporto
Overview
From ancestral myths to political games worthy of a TV series, the Free Tour of Ribeira tells the story of a town and its intimate relationship with the Douro and the sea.
In our Free Tour of Ribeira we will talk about the origins of the city of Porto, the conflicts between bishops and merchants, the centuries of Portuguese expansion around the world, the foundation of the Companhia das Vinhas do Alto Douro, fishing and codfish, port wine, unlikely legends and unforgettable heroes.
In times past the Douro was a brave and stormy river and no less tumultuous is the history of the magnificent Ribeira do Porto and we hope our Free Ribeira Tour will show it to you.

Meeting point: You’ll find us in front of the Stained Glass Museum.
First and foremost: look for the blue Freetour umbrellas with yellow lettering.
If you can’t find us, call our emergency number between 9:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Please note that we do not respond to emails immediately.
Groups of 7 or more are always welcome. In this case, we require a deposit of €12 per adult (ages 12 and up). This policy stems from the need to protect and uphold the high standards of quality and dedication we demand from our local Take Oporto guides.
Things to note
Be sure to show up, as we limit the number of people per group. If not, please cancel your reservation.
If you get lost on your way to the meeting point, you can contact us by WhatsApp up to 5 minutes before the tour starts. After that, we will not be able to help you.
How can the tour be free?
Our concept is simple — there is no set price. Instead, you tip your guide at the end of the tour whatever amount feels right to you. Typically, guests give between $10 to €50, depending on their satisfaction and budget.
Most guides accept cash or card payments, or you can do it via our app.
Cancellation policy
You are free to cancel a booking anytime. We kindly remind you to cancel bookings you cannot arrive for. Being reported as absent decreases your customer level points and the benefits you can enjoy.
