The first city founded on the Pacific coast was Panama La Vieja. The city was founded in 1519 after the attack of the pirate Henry Morgan in 1671. Then, the decision was taken to take advantage of this particular geographical area to found El Caco Viejo, better known as the Barrio de San Felipe. This place receives a lot of French, Afro-Caribbean and North American colonial influence.
It is declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and since then many efforts have been made for its restoration and conservation with its seven churches.
