Overview of the tour in Lake District

Kendal, known as 'The Gateway to the Lakes' and to locals as the 'Auld Grey Town' (due to being mostly built of traditional limestone), was named the 'Happiest Place to Live' in the North West in 2023 (Rightmove). I live & work in Kendal and love this beautiful area.

I'll share everything I've learnt & love about Kendal & South Lakes, including:
- Walks in the town & beyond
- Places to visit, eat & drink
- Events & festivals

Kendal has a wonderful mix of town & countryside and you'll experience both on this tour. We'll walk by the River Kent, share some history past & present, visit the post office which inspired Postman Pat, and see some wonderful views of the town & Lake District fells from Castle Howe, Serpentine Woods & Kendal Fell.

My dad is a dairy & sheep farmer in South Lakeland, and his farm supports five families producing delicious, award winning cheese, running glamping accommodation & making gorgeous felts. We'll discuss the importance of the wool industry to this area, how farming has shaped the landscape and the future of farming.

If you can't make the days/times but are interested, I may be able to offer something bespoke, please get in touch to discuss.

This activity includes:

  • Kendal Parish Church
  • Abbot Hall
  • Brewery Arts
  • Postman Pat Plaque
  • Serpentine Woods
  • Wainwright's Yard
  • Kendal Town Hall
  • Town & Country Experiences

Meeting point

Kendal's Coat of Arms

On arrival

We'll be meeting near Kendal's Coat of Arms, by the information board in the photo attached. This is by Nether Bridge and opposite Youdells Art Shop.

Things to note

This walk is about 6.5km / 4 miles, through woodland & over fells, on paths which could be muddy & slippy, and as such walking boots or wellies are recommended. To gain the best views, there will be some steep ascents, the total ascent being about 380m. The Cumbrian weather can also be unpredictable, so the blue sky views aren't guaranteed, but an adventure is! :-)

Free Cancellation

You are free to cancel a booking anytime. We kindly remind you to cancel bookings you cannot arrive for. Being reported as absent decreases your customer level points and the benefits you can enjoy.
