Tour of Podil: Kyiv's Oldest Neighbourhood
Overview of the tour in Kyiv
Greetings! I will take you on a walk through Podil, or the Lower Town, located by the Dnipro River. In the past, this location helped Podil grow commercially. Today, it makes this riverside district look strikingly different from the rest of Kyiv's Megapolis.
On the tour, we'll admire the architecture of the SQUARE of CONTRACTS, which was Kyiv’s commercial hub for centuries (hence its name!). We'll see KYIV MOHYLA ACADEMY (17th cent.), which is the oldest university across Ukraine, Russia & Belarus, as well as the Soviet-era KYIV RIVER STATION known for its unique architecture.
Podil suffered grievously during the Soviets, but against all odds retained many of its churches. We’ll visit the medieval MADONNA PYROHOSHCHA DORMITION CHURCH, built as the main church of the Podil neighborhood in the 12th cent and restored in modern times. As a final touch and if you so wish, we'll visit the local museum, boasting a rich collection of artifacts associated with Podil. The admission fee of some 100 hryvnias is not included.
Don't hesitate to book this one-of-a-kind tour, and you won't regret it!
