Overview of the tour in Colombo

Located on the outskirts of Colombo, Attidiya Bird Sanctuary consists of 372 hectares in extent.

Earlier the marshlands of Attidiya Bird Sanctuary were used by migrating birds as a breeding site. Can spot over 40 species of birds along with butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies, and reptiles.

We will be meeting at the entrance to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center-Dehiwala. I will take you through the nature trails along the marshy area. I will guide you through this sub-urban wetland to spot different birds and other animal species.

During the tour, I will explain the site's history, the importance of these kinds of forest patches/sanctuaries, and the species diversity around along with spotting beautiful wildlife and capturing their movements! Then we will return to the starting point to finish the excursion.

On arrival

When you come from Colombo, proceed towards Nugegoda by using 'The A4 road. Then change onto 'B84' road from Nugegoda and proceed towards Boralesgamuwa through Pepiliyana. [Colombo - Nugegoda - Pepiliyana - Boralesgamuwa] Turn right from the traffic lights of Boralesgamuwa junction and proceed towards Bellanwila Buddhist Temple.

When you come forward about 950 meters, take the turn to the left to 'Malani Bulathsinghala Mawatha'. Then move about 350 meters until you meet a T-junction and turn right to a wider carpeted road from there and pass the bridge. Then proceed to the meeting point which is about 250 meters from the last turn.

Things to note

Please wear proper shoes as we walk in the field and bring a water bottle with you to keep yourself hydrated. If you have please bring a binocular to observe wildlife clearly and a camera to take some clear photographs of animals. Wear a cap or a hat and bring an umbrella or a raincoat just in case.
