West of Potsdamer Platz is a collection of modernist cultural buildings known collectively as the Kultuforum – cultural institutions built in the 1950s & 60s which include the new National Gallery, Museum of Decorative Arts, Art Library, Chamber Music Hall and the Berlin Philharmonie among others. The concept originated after the art works and cultural collections of the capital were split between Eastern and Western Berlin following World War II and the division of the city and so the Kulturforum arose as a sort of equivalent to the the cultural centre for art on Museum Island, albeit with the Modernist design of the time. As the second centre for art in Berlin it's a must visit for any of you culture-junkies.
