Jewish Frankfurt Free Tour: Ghetto, Culture & Remembrance
Überblick
On this moving walking journey, we discover a history filled with rich culture, deep tragedy, and profound hope. I am Holger. Having lived here for 13 years, I will show you the real Frankfurt beyond the regular postcards.
What to expect: we start at the Frankfurt Cathedral. From there, we walk to the former Judengasse—the first established Jewish ghetto in Europe. We will talk about daily life within the ghetto walls, the spectacular rise of the famous Rothschild banking dynasty, and the systematic destruction of Jewish life during the Nazi era.
Our Highlights:
Frankfurt Cathedral: Our meeting point and historical contrast.
Judengasse: Europe's oldest Jewish ghetto.
Neuer Börneplatz: A deeply moving Holocaust memorial.
Old Jewish Cemetery: One of the oldest burial grounds in Europe.
Rothschild Palais: Our finale at the Main riverbank.
Join me on this emotional journey and uncover the hidden stories that shaped Frankfurt's soul!

Zu berücksichtigende Dinge
To ensure the best possible experience for everyone, please keep the following details in mind:
Safety & security: since this tour includes sensitive historical sites and active cultural landmarks, you might notice an increased security presence in certain areas. This is standard procedure in Frankfurt and entirely normal.
The cemetery & dress code: we will pass by the historic old Jewish cemetery. Please note that we will view it from the outside through the memorial wall, as the inner grounds are generally locked. In Jewish tradition, men are required to wear a head covering (a regular baseball cap or hat is perfectly fine) when approaching or entering these sacred grounds.
Sensitive content: this tour covers emotional topics, including the systematic destruction of Jewish life during the nazi era. While it is a moving and respectful journey, it is best suited for mature teenagers and adults.
Weather & walking: the tour takes about 2 hours and is entirely outdoors. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.
How "Pay-what-you-want" works: there is no fixed price for this tour. Instead, you can tip your guide at the end based on your satisfaction and budget.
