Overview

Wieliczka Salt Mine, often called the 'Underground Salt Cathedral of Poland', is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Poland and was listed as one of the first UNESCO Cultural and Natural Heritage in 1978. It features a very unique character and beauty that has been molded by nature through millions of years. During the nine centuries of salt exploitation, the salt mine developed into a large-scale underground city with a very unique and interesting atmosphere.

The salt mine has been visited since the 15th century and therefore serves as an important cultural and geological phenomenon for the city. The mine consists of nine floors, around 3000 chambers and over 300 kilometers of galleries! The route you’ll follow is about 2 kilometer long and includes 22 chambers that are connected by galleries. Your guide will lead you through the mine to gaze upon the ancient shafts, mining machines and equipment, mysterious salt lakes, sculptures, bas-reliefs, and then the legendary St. Kinga’s chapel.

At the end of the tour you’ll be glad to know that there is a nice restaurant waiting for weary visitors where you can enjoy lunch and rest soar feet.
