Dublin is awash with music of all genres but traditional Irish music & song is what most visitors expect to hear. In Temple Bar music & songs are pumped out of almost every pub, however it is for the most part commercialised, very tourist-aimed performances rather than an authentic open-session, i.e. the traditional sphere of innovation whereby a number of musicians jam & learn from each other in a pub corner primarily for themselves and the music rather than for the purpose of attracting tourist euros. These sessions can be a truly fantastic experience, a musical occurrence devoid of tourist-product commodification. Nightly in The Cobblestone (Smithfield) & O'Donoghue's (Merrion row) are two stalwarts of the session scene while Tuesday nights in Peadar Kearney's on Dame Street offers a great pub session too.
