Gangsters, Madams & Peaky Blinders: A History of the Irish Mafia
Overview of the tour in Dublin
After the industrial revolutions, the Western world underwent accelerated changes. Britain was the quintessential powerhouse, crunching its factories all over the planet. Meanwhile, an underworld of marginality and inequality was emerging in step with progress.
In cold Ireland, the working classes fled starvation by embarking to faraway America or nearby England in search of a better life, while others stayed behind to resist crisis, revolution and war in a context where organized crime constituted true empires of blood.
Join us on a tour to learn about the origins of the Irish mafia and its influence around the world. We will reconstruct little-known stories among the iconic alleys of old Victorian brothels and follow in the footsteps of criminals like Billy Kimber, the great leader of the Peaky Blinders, his stay in Dublin and the links of the famous Birmingham gang with the IRA, the Rebellion and Independence.
